Yale IC Forklifts
Internal Combustion Lift Trucks
The IC forklift belongs in the class IV and V forklift classification. They could be gas, diesel or liquid propane models. Primarily, the ICE or internal combustion engine units are utilized outdoors, because they are able to operate in rough weather conditions and produce some emissions. Propane-powered models, however, can be used indoors provided that proper ventilation is utilized. It is best to know what specific requirements you need to utilize the forklift for and what types of environments you would be working in, to be able to ensure you pick the best model that will meet all your requirements.
Internal Combustion Engine Benefits
Compared to a similar capacity electric truck, the IC engine is offered in a lower initial purchase price varying anywhere from 20% to 40% lower. The Internal Combustion Engine models are fast and simple to refuel. This feature greatly reduces downtime because there is no requirement to recharge any batteries, as there is with electric units.
To the similarly equipped electric truck, IC units do provide a higher performance capabilities with far heavier lift capacities compared to electric lift truck models. Over recent years, there have been many advancements regarding emissions technology and this has resulted in lower total levels of emission. ICE trucks remain popular with load sizes approximately 8,000 pounds and even much higher in specific operations like for instance ports, lumberyard settings and steel manufacturing facilities.
Internal Combustion Engine Disadvantages
There are a few disadvantages to the Internal Combustion Engine units. For instance, they use a higher cost-per-hour to operate as compared to electric trucks. This is mostly because of fuel and maintenance costs. As well, these models usually produce more noise compared to the electric models since they run louder. ICE trucks also have fuel-storage requirements to consider too.
